Lift rear seat so fuel pump can be heard.
When you crank the engine, the ECU does not know this. The ECU needs to see CPS signal and then it will engage the fuel pump relay. If you just bump the starter you should hear the pump run briefly. With ignition turn on, pump runs briefly as well as Swedecar describes.
If when cranking with no start, if the tach does not show engine motion, the ECU does not see the engine turning and the CPS is not working or connectivity problems.
We do get a lot of no-starts or slow starts at the end of the summer grade gasoline season. Summer grade fuels have less volatility to combat evap losses/pollution. These fuels promote injector deposits. With modern evap control systems, perhaps the need for summer grade fuels is negated as the fleet of vehicles without evap control systems is retired.
