The main thing that bothers me is that if you change the geometry of the light "filament" you change throw, light scatter and are likely to dazzle other drivers. Basically the headlight and bulb are a single design unit. If you want to get more output and are fully aware of the legal consequences and consequent insurance invalidity, I'd go for the Off Road 80w bulbs made by a well known manufacturer like Osram, Ring or Philips. The term 80W means nothing without specifying the voltage, but on a like for like basis the 80W bulbs by these manufacturers have a 65W output at 12v as opposed to 55W for a standard bulb. They also have an almost identical filament geometry to the legal bulb - and are not as obvious as an illegal modification in the event of an accident.
And in case anyone asks, the standard testing voltage for auto bulbs is 13.2 v, and the output of these "80W" bulbs is actually around 73W at this voltage - near enough to call them 80W I guess since they don't specify the voltage on the box in any case. Osram used to label theirs as 65 W but changed to 80 for obvious reasons.
