I can understand this objection before, but I want all the light I can get and not be a nuisance or danger to other cars on the road.
I live in a mountainous area and want to be seen in the daytime and have as much light as possible at night. We have no street lights and it is important to have as much power as possible.
I have heard this argument before on the Porsche 911 site that I frequent about LEDs not being compatible with stock reflectors.
-most of the new generation LED replacement/upgrade bulbs are basically the same length as the quartz they replace. Also they are 3 sided design so the radiation pattern is very similar and very 360 degrees.
-If you upgrade to 80W quartz bulbs you will have heat problems with the connectors which are made of plastic. I have tried this and the connectors melt. The brass connections also burn and arc. MY EXPERIENCE is that this in not a good solution. The light increase is not that much either.
We have 2 Saab Aeros running these lights and one 911 Porsche with H4 LED bulbs and a 1990 Chevrolet pickup with them. All work well and do not blind other drivers.
My wife has a 2003 Aero with the new lights, and she bought a 2001 Aero wagon and begged me to put some LED bulbs in it. She felt like the lights were off in comparison to her 2003.
I am just saying that I have accumulated a bit of experience with LEDs and they are a good solution.
