It was either plasti-dip or flexi-dip or something like that.
I painted in situ but taped off the body colour parts of the mirror. I might have also rotated the mirror body as well when it made sense. I used a screwdriver as a scraped and sandpaper once it was taped off.
Update. Just looked at it outside. It still looks much better than before but adhesion is starting to fail. I would assume more to the white metal corrosion underneath rather than coating failure.
An interesting side note is that I also looked at our 2006 "Gripen" (formerly called Dame Edna). It appears though I can't confirm that they improved this part by using a grey plastic injection molded cover/part that will not peel. One of the improvements in the 1,367 changes made for that model year.
