My suggestion if you live in an area with mild winters: go to McMaster Carr's website and order some Viton (fluoropolymer) O-rings in size 219. It's still my best option in colder winter areas, but potentially they could seep a little coolant on the -25F to -30F days. They get less flexible at low temps, but they withstand the heat that kills the nitrile rubber. Clean (very clean) the block and pipe of all sealants, and use silicone grease to lube.
I used those the last time I replaced water pumps on each of my two daughters' Minnesota cars, and they are doing fine so far.
