Update on 219 Viton O-rings for Water Pump-Block pipe 1 Saabers Like This Post! The water pump O-rings to the block frustrate me, because the original factory O-rings must have had a special polymer that allowed them to last so long.
I am running a 2-car 'experiment' with 219 size VitonĀ® O-rings on the pipe from water pump to block. One car has 21 months and 8500 miles (using lithium anti-corrosive lube similar to Gleitmo), while tho other has 16 months and 12,000 miles (installed with silicone grease only). They're both fairing well, with a little coolant loss during -25 degr F and colder. VitonĀ® is not as flexible below -20 degr F, but it's under very litte pressure while at that temperature. This is really too soon to declare anything, but the lower mileage car has been through two Minnesota winters so far.
I'll add to this thread as the cars accumulate time and miles.
