It sounds like you have diagnosed it, but since you ask, I'd have a close look at the hoses in the vicinity, especially the hose that exits the head and makes an immediate 90 deg turn. It could be that a hose is leaking and spraying on the reservoir, making it look like the cap is leaking. It happened to me ...
The trick was that at idle there was not enough pressure to leak. So when I would stop, pop the hood, and look for leaks with the engine running it looked perfectly fine. It was not until the engine reved up to 1200 or 1500 rpm that would spray.
