2000 Aero, 135k mi project car making an awful racket: tapping/knocking. if you are bored here is some background: https://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9-5/index.html?bID=282218
Phase 1 - was to remove head from donor car and refurb it.
Phase 2 - was to swap that head into this car. improvement in noise but still noisey.
this weekend is phase 3, we are replacing rod bearings main bearings in situ.
Question about main bearings: how do you get the top half bearing shell out (and the new one in) with the crankshaft in place? it does not seem to budge. The engine is in the car (and not coming out anytime soon) and I've read that it is possible to do the mains, just cant figure out how.
Rod bearings were easy. The worst was #3:
