I agree with you, space, time and money are big considerations.
For whatever reason the stars aligned for this project:
- Space - A few years ago I moved into a small house with a large garage. So
I'm fortunate to have a lot of garage space now (I never did in my younger days).
- Time - The upside of the pandemic is that my sons and I have some free time.
- Money - A donor car presented itself when the transmission of my silver '00
Aero decided to crap the bed.
Working on cars (or boats or anything for that matter) in the NC summer heat and humidity is not fun. But doing the project inside a large air-conditioned garage is a luxury that I can't describe. And having helpers made it really enjoyable. We all had a great time, and learned a lot. As you can tell, we still have more to learn.
Next we are going to pull the pistons out of the donor, just in case we need them. And I'll practice cutting the balance chain on the donor car, it seems really tight in there. Then its main bearings and snip the balance chain on the rescue car.
So come on down to the swamps of NC, you are welcome to join the car fun, and the non-car fun too. Fishing, sailing, napping, whatever you like. seriously!
