That's interesting, so there's an identifiable reason for the driver's side getting warmer. Going to refill it when I get the gauge sorted out and see what happens.
I did clamp off the heater core input and it dropped the vent temp without the AC on from about 10 degrees above ambient to just about ambient, so that makes a big difference.
