I picked up a 9-5 Linear last month - it listed at 36K and I took it home for 31.5. This month however they are being taken home for 27K and many are picking up Aeros for 32K !

At first I thought I was getting a good deal - but after the last few weeks I'm not sure. In 30 days I lost 4K in reductions alone plus the usual loss when one drives off the lot. My plan is to trade my 9-5 in two years - with low miles - a perfect service routine - I might get 14 - 15K in trade... maybe. A Benz C240 or Audi A4 would fetch 18 - 20K.

Now I love my Linear - and I love being a Saab fanatic ! but some may take issue with my theory of why the value of these cars are dropping faster than a 2002 Oldsmobile. Style ... the square body type of the 9-5 .... it is simply .. 1995 :) From the side it looks like a large 1999 Jetta. Don't get me wrong - the 9-5 is no Jetta - but like the 9-3 - Saab will surely be updating to a newer body type in a couple years. For now these cars look much older than they are... and that hurts in the resale when they sit on a used car lot.

When you sit down and negotiate remember that when you hand the keys back - square body Saabs will be a distant memory - the newer 9-3's will have been around for a while and a new 9-5 will be likely out as well. Let Saab and the dealer take the hit for this.

Ok - its Sunday - time for me to enjoy what matters in my Saab - the great engine ( lets hope I don't pull up to any more of those 1999 Jetta's :)
