power supply when ignition key inserted

I have changed out the factory stereo with an aftermarket one, and I want to be able to get the power to be on whenever the key is in the ignition switch, not just when it's in the On position.
The basic problem is that there is no "accessory" position where I can turn on the radio without the car and/or lights etc. being on, but if I can just have the power when the key is plugged in then that would be fine.
The power line to the factory stereo is only on when the key is in the On position, so I'm guessing that its extra capability (leave the stereo on until the key is removed, allow one hour of operation even when it's out) was based on comunications over the I-BUS. Is that true? If so, is there any other way to get a power signal to the head unit when the key is plugged in, not just when it's in the On position?
