Just use some common sense; if you don't use ramps, and use hydraulic jacks instead, you should also use jack stands.
Then before pouring in the new oil make sure you've installed the drain plug and oil filter!
Even my most bone-headed friends manage to do their own oil changes just fine :-P
Many gas stations around here will recycle used oil for free.
I'm not crazy about paying my SAAB dealer $50 for a semi-synth oil change. Plus you have to drive out to the dealer and WAIT...
I'd rather do it myself for $23 using full-synth A3/B3 Mobil 1 0W-40 and a Delco Ultra-guard Gold filter!
