The answer in a nutshell is no.
Oil is often a subject volley-balled around here on the BB. SAAB dealers world wide do not follow Mr. Goldberger's advice. Rather, they service 9-5 cars on a daily basis with 5W-30 semi synthetic oil which does not meet the holy grail spec of A3/B3. How is it that millions of litres of non compliant oil are used world wide by SAAB and its dealers and warranted for 4 years and 50,000 miles if its do bad?
Full synthetic "any oil"--Mobil 1, Amsoil, etc-- is a level of protection ABOVE what your owners manual specifies, and in MY 2003 the spec'd oil for 9-5's is still semi-synthetic 5W-30. Again, not as Steve writes.
Mobil 1, Amsoil 5W-30 maintains the "recommended viscosity" of your owners manual, but since they are high quality full synthetics, you'll have no problems using them.
If you just got this car, and do not have history with it, I would strongly suggest full synthetic 10W-30 weight until you can evalute what you have.
