The original residual was $23.9K - they dropped it $2k. Judging from what I read in the local papers, the '00 wagons seem to be going for 19-22k - but those for sale have almost exclusively been SE v6's. I would assume SE's would fetch a bit more than 2.3lpt. Black Book/KBB indicates 19-19.5K would be reasonable. I'd even go higher
As for replacement- I want to buy this time around, and the Saab dealers around here keep pushing lease. Given the subvented offers, it probably makes financial sense, but I've never really been comfortable in my current lease - I feel like I'm renting. They havent been too forthcoming about offering any substantial discounts (above $1K or so) on linear - which is what I want. phred, you're right, japanese won't save me any $$$ on purchase, but at least resale value will hold, and I won't have to deal with the two temperamental saab service dep'ts local to Oakland. Even though it's my wife's daily driver and I don't get to drive it as often as I'd like, I'm sure gonna miss the 9-5, though.
