I thought my last car, a '99 9-5 4-cyl LPT, was pinging. Once, when I took it in for service, my service advisor mentioned that a heat shield in the exhaust system was loose, and that they had tightened it for me. Sure enough, the noise was gone.
The noise only appeared under heavy acceleration, and it did sound a lot like pinging. If, after running a couple of tanks of premium gas, your car still makes the noise, you might want to see if you (meaning your dealership) can find anything loose.
On my LPT, and now on my Aero, I only run premium. Turbo engines are really picky about gas. Since the gas out here in Arizona is part ether, part MTBE, part gas station additives, part eye of newt, etc., I figure that it is maybe 20% real gasoline anymore. I really can tell a difference in both power and mileage (which helps offset the extra cost) when using premium.
