You need a good spray pattern and proper plugs-conditon.

If the plugs are not new, pull then and read them, regap if needed.

Get a large 20 Oz bottle of Techron concentrate. This will restore the spray pattern if the injectors are fouled. Combustion chamber deposits also create an aquired octane demand, which you seem to have. The Techron will fix that too. If the Techron eliminates the knocking, with a next fill of un-treated fuel, then this indicates that you probably were suffering from combustion chamber deposits. In that case I would then do another bottle of Techron to go after any remaining deposits.

Note that the Techron will increase the octane of the treated tank. So you might observe some immediate benefits, but it is then masking the problem, and the end benifit depends on the time+techron.

Note that regular fuel does not have the addative package that premium fuels have, which combats deposits. Note that premium fuel still produces deposits. I use Techron (regular size) every 8K or 3x per year. Note that fouled injectgors with bad sray patterns can hit the cyliner walls which attacks the oil film. This causes severe wear, darker oil and higher levels of fuel contamination of the oil. Clean injectors are important.

Please post later with your observations. If the above helps, inform your mechanic as well.
