I should probably go out and grab my owner's manual, or wait for someone else with more experience of SAAB 2.3's to chime in, but that would be so against my character.
I don't believe that there is any service interval for the timing chain. Should last as long as any other major component of the engine (e.g., crank, pistons, rods, etc.).
The Linear is a great buy, there are engine upgrades that you can do later.
I can only think of two concerns with a new 9-5.
1. Replace the OEM brake pads (this isn't limited to Linear's). Try to work into the sale. Unless the dealer is willing to swear that the 2003's have different pads than 2002's. If you're sticking with OEM, maybe have the dealer put in writing that the rotors are covered for warranty period, with their inspections of rotors at regularly-scheduled maintenance periods.
2. Some 2.3 auto's experience vibrations at idle when stopped in Drive. Actually all of the ones I test drove, and the one I bought did it. The V-6 doesn't. I can live with it, with all of the other pluses an Aero has, but I'm disappointed about it.
