If you get a 6 speed manual with the 2.7T there isn't a performance drag. I made the mistake of getting the tiptronic which was disappointing and has terrible built-in lag (see audiworld boards). Very nice car except for the seats which are a let down compared to the aero and the Volvo XC. If you pursue the allroad and drive in NYC I would not get the dual spoke rims. Might want to check out the V8 option for the allroad -- I never drove it, but I bet it is nice.
My sister has a Volvo XC and I got the pleasure to drive it for 300 or so miles on a trip. I love the seats. Better than the 02 aero I have. Not a thrill ride, but not a bad option either. Volvos AWD is not as good as quattro.
Another option - BMW X5 - Great option if you don't need any cargo room.
Based on the bunch you listed and your criteria I think the allroad is your best option. The aero wagon is certainly nice, but I agree having two sets of tires etc can be a pain and FWD, while excellent in the snow, is not AWD.
As others suggested if you are willing to go Japanesse there are a lot of options....not my taste so I really don't have any comments on these cars.
