Had a '97900SET; now have a '029-5Aero. Let's just say that both certainly have the Saab flavor. But two completely different vehicles. The 900SET was fast and light -- very tossable. Engine was strong (when the turbo finally was fixed) and driving dynamics good, but lots of body flex, rattles and oddities in terms of system mechanics -- an ACC that pumped A/C in the winter at times, broken electric window switches and ignition. Incessant low coolant warnings. A lot of annoying bugs acutally. And interior room was sparse (save through that rattling hatch).
The Aero is much more mature runner. Great engine, chassis dynamics, but heavier, substantial and just larger where it needs to be. Much more refined luxury and driver-oriented comforts. I miss the dash of the 900 --a bit of a timeless design, but I have some of the same dynamics in the Aero dash. Seats are better, brakes as well and the manual/clutch -- a much better, more refined system.
Now if Saab could address the rattles -- someone once told me this is what you must expect of a Saab, but as pricepoint rises, so do my expectations. And how about windows and a sunroof that raise and lower at one touch? That's standard in upper brackets.
