Hi,

I asked a follow up question to blackstone labs about virgin oil
analysis. Molybdenum Disulfide is a fairly new anti-wear additive
which is touted as state of the art. Zincdithiophosphate is a tried an
true anti-wear additive.

For example Mobil 1 and Redline contain Molybdenum Disulfide, but other
reputable and highly regarded oils such as Amsoil and Delvac 1 do not.

Molybdenum Disulfide is expensive.

Anyway, I asked the following follow-up question about SAAB
semi-synthetic 5W-30 virgin oil analysis.

Blackstone Labs' answer is the following:

"Jae: Some oils use Molybdenum (is the oil as Molybdenum Disulfide) and
some don't. This oil does have a lot of Phosphorus and Zinc (in the oil as
Zincdithiophosphate) and this is a good anti-wear additive, so they think
the oil doesn't need any Molybdenum. These levels of additive would be
suitable for diesel engine use and are generally higher than what we see
from most 5W/30. It should do well in your engine, even in hard driving
situations. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Sincerely,
Ryan Stark
Blackstone Labs"

So, someone who's job is to look at oils thinks this oil is good.
It is true that we don't know how this oil stands up to longer oil
intervals, but as Greg says, if you stick with 5,000 mile oil change
interval, you should be fine with this oil.

thanks

Jae
