Not the way I learned it, since I was taught to up or down shift in advance of entering the corner. On the other hand,an automatic can do this for you when the speed/load conditions call for it and you don't have to do anything but keep your hands on the wheel and drive. Like I said before though, the analogies between how a race driver operates a car and how we typically drive during normal apeed street driving still apply. How spirited is hard street driving before it starts to look like racing? Personally,I want the control systems and ergonomic design factors on my street car to reflect the way I am likely to use it on the street, and am not harboring a boy racer image of hard driving, double clutching, high rpm revving, tire squealing theatrics while stuck in traffic behind an overweight road hogging Stupid Ugly Vehicle. After driving high performance and sports cars for a sufficient number of years,I have developed a different perspective on what features are important for day to day use, and one of them is the question of the need to manually shift gears.
