First the invoice generally doesn't reflect the effective cost of the car to the dealer. As you know there are often holdbacks, manufacture bonuses, and other considerations. So as a consumer I don't find the invoice alone all that intriging any way.
Next even it did relect the dealers effective cost for the car from the manufacture we haven't really established a cost plus context anyway. Not all of the dealer costs are reflected on the invoice. There is payroll, business and property taxes, building costs, advertising, blah, blah, blah. So if one really accepted cost plus as a business model the dealership would have to open up it's books and the customer would need to have their accountant review the books in order to determine the cost plus price.
It is just a lot of smoke with little flame. Birth year plus makes as much sense to me.
