Most of the time, the manufacturer never lets the situation get to a "Lemon Law" forced buyback. Usually, the threat of Lemon Law action will cause the manufacturer to buy the car back as a "customer satisfaction" measure, meaning that the title never gets branded as a "Lemon". The manufacturers know that they would lose a significant chunk of the value of the car if they let the title get marked as such.
I must take issue with Mike's comment about the fact that there are no lemon cars, just lemon owners. In my case, the dealership installed 5 new gas tanks on my '99 9-5 SE (4-cyl LPT) over the course of a year. The gas tank would work for a month or so, then get a leak, causing the CEL to come on, and sometimes gas fumes would come into the cabin. I did some research and found that this was a known problem on the early '99 9-5s, especially in hot climates (like Arizona). Each time the car was returned to me, I was told that the problem was fixed for good. I ultimately got some candid advice that the problem would keep coming back forever; there was no way at that time to fix it for good.
Saab USA offered me a certificate worth some money off my next Saab, and the deal was structured as a plain-old trade-in. The old car was never even considered a buy-back, Lemon Law or otherwise, even though it easily met Arizona's standards for being a lemon. My new 2002 9-5 Aero, on the other hand, has been almost perfect.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.
