V6 will be back, but I won't miss it..... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Sun, 24 Aug 2003 12:02:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I hope it isn't too big of a secret that the V6 is history for 04.
It really take a lot of time explaining to people the difference between the 2.3lpt and the V6 as a Saab salesperson. I can sell either one. I suspect that the V6 was maxed out at 200hp with the current asymetrical turbo system and Saab as much as any manufacturer needed a shot of horsepower.
That was easy bumping the 185hp to 220hp with the 2.3 for 04 hence the demise of the V6. The 250hp Aero certainly doesn't offer any driveability penalties vs. the 185hp LPT so why not? A 250hp HOT 2.3 even has the same EPA mileage as the 185hp LPT.
A V6 Arc is a fabulous car. Get your while you can. It will probably still feel punchier and sound sweeter than the 220hp 04, but I won't miss it. It will be very unifying to have only turbo fours, and faster, and better economy too.
I suspect the V6 will be back big time, but the chain drive, all aluminum, variable valve timing engine from the 04 Cadillac CTS with twin turbos, or at least more turbo power that would easily make 300+hp.
