and has shut off on us four times now. This started about three weeks ago. I had MKB look it over when I had the car in for new rotors (Yep, another zimerman drilled rotor warpage. About 1500 miles when they warped under normal driving conditions). No codes found, and no repeat for the tech when it was in the shop last time. Here is what is going on:
1) After about a 3 hour run down interstate 5 from LA, the car would not start after sitting for about an hour at a resturant. Engine cranked & cranked, but no sound of spark at all. Waited about 5 minutes, took off the gas cap (real hot an humid for us fair weather San Diego people), and the car started up (after cranking this time for about 10-15 seconds).
2) After about four days, the car stalled at a stop sign. After waiting about a minute, the car cranked for about 10 seconds, and started back up.
3) After about three days, the car again stopped at a light. Started back up no problem.
Note: At this point, I swapped out my DI with my spare unit, a new one from Europarts. Checked the plugs (about 8K on them, and looking and gapped good). I did this to try an remove a sick DI from the equation, just in case...
4) Today, 6 days after I swapped out the DI. The car stopped as I was driving on a surface street at about 25 MPH. I coasted to the side, waited about a minute, and it started up after cranking for about 10-15 seconds.
Now my wife claims this is because I'm driving the car, and not her. I'm not sure how to report that to the tech:)! But this is now something that can be a danger (engine stopping while driving), so it is back into MKB to see if Don and the gang can find something this time around.
The car has just over 40K 'fun driven' but well maintained miles. Has had the ECU replaced under the recall. With zero problems (well two replaced batteries...). I did get the gas tank down to just fumes before filling the tank (over 18 gal) with a bottle of techron (I use a bottle every 6K), before my run to LA and back.
I would appreciate any feedback that I can suggest to MKB. I did get to say hi to Mike Lynch for a second today (he had a room full of people, and look forward to chatting with him for awhile when I pick up our car. (Maybe he will want me to do an extended test drive of the Aero wagon he is thinking about. The sacrafices us members of the TSN will do for our fellow members:)!!
TIA for any input.
