Me.
I've posted several times to ask unremarkable questions, and been given good solid info by all of you each time. But my check engine light was on for 4 weeks for no apparent reason and the rear end was very skittery on bumps.
So I bring the car (new to me--1 month--2000 9-5 wagon w/2.3t) in to get the rear shocks replaced and have the check engine light looked into. The shocks are not only shot (accurate diagnosis by you BBS Saabophiles), but left and right are different models, neither of them right for my car. New ones (OEM) are $100 each--fine, not the cheapest in the world, but not out of line.
But it's the check engine light that makes me the fool I am. Turns out that my turbo waste gate is not even attached to my turbo (or something like that) and I have next to zero boost. I've been driving around with a turbo-less Saab marvelling at how great the engine feels and I've NEVER EVEN EXPERIENCED THE TURBO!
Needless to say, $461, two shocks and a reattached waste gate (and a few vacuum hoses (?) later, the car drives like a f---ing dream. I grinned and giggled the entire way home from the mechanic. It feels like a I'm in a very well appointed rocket.
Just wanted to thank you all for your advice and let you know that now, once again and for the first time, I love my new (used) Saab with an ardor that my wife finds vaguely distressing.
Josh
