I have had two Audi A6's, and two 9-5's. They're both fun. But they're different. With snows (not all seasons) on the Saab, it will go anywhere, but it's still not quattro. REliability: 99 A6, 55k miles. Nothing besides a seat heater switch and oil changes. 01 A6 2.7t, 50k mi so far, nothing besides oil changes/maintenance. Nothing. '00 9-5 wagon #1, 35k mi, turbo,
ignition lock, front brakes. 00 9-5 #2, 46k miles so far: battery, ECU, new transmission, new clutch, (2) turbos, pads and rotors.
Saab Aero more fun than Passat, probably safer (why my wife still has hers and not a Passat), AND runs a heck of a lot better. 1.8t too buzzy, V6 has no guts, W8 will be gone soon already. So 3 yr lease the Aero, and when the new Passat (bigger, 3.2l Bi turbo???) comes out in 2005 (probably 2006 here) give it back. In my life with these cars, the Saabs are not as reliable. But as I said, I think they are still the safest out there, lots of load lugging space, and a certain uniqueness. We live in Colo mtns and with Hakka snows it's great. Hope this helps.
