The spare in the wagon fits lower in the well than the sedan, such that the extra width of the flat or full sized spare is absorbed by the gap between the carpet flap and the wooden cargo floor. In a sedan, the flap that covers the spare has an expansion joint in it that flexes to cover the full sized spare, but you loose a little cargo space by doing this. I had both a sedan and wagon, and put a full-sized spare in the wagon for road trips. The hole on both vehicles will fit the flat or a full-sized spare, but it's not the same between the two vehicles.
