I had the Saab package (wheels plus Goodyear Ultragrips)put on a couple of days before I drove up to Boston. Every year, they get weird weather for the 4 day dog show cluster at the Bayside Expo. This years nor'easter with snow to shut down the roads on Sunday didn't disappoint...but neither did the Ultragrips. There can't be a dog show without the judge, and I made it from the hotel in Braintree to Bayside just fine, including side streets, over the weekend (Also finished up my Sheltie's second agility championship title when I wasn't judging).
So, yeah, get the snows. What swayed me was something someone posted a month or so ago about how all-season tires do OK on everything, but not GREAT on anything. In addition to the siping, etc, the rubber compound is designed for COLD, so that clinched it for me here in NJ. We don't get horrendous amounts of snow, but it does get cold and we do get drenching rain.
Also drove from NJ to Erie, PA and back this weekend. The tires are only slightly noisier on dry roads than the P6's in the long run. For under a kilobuck the Saab package is a no brainer.
Happy sledding!
