I'll guess that you have the problem figured out--it's the first signs of master cylinder failure.
Crap, I'd assumed Saab had finally eliminated this Achilles' heel in the newer cars.
Both manual Saabs I've owned--a 99 and a 9k--went through master cylinders. Likely exacerbated by my habit of double-clutching, I went through three in each car. The MCs were all made in England and all suffered scored cylinder walls, either because of debris in the fluid or broken return springs.
The impending failure would announce itself like you describe: trouble getting into reverse, then the clutch engaging with the pedal closer and closer to the floor.
I'd try bleeding the system with a lot of clean fluid and checking for leaky hose connections first, but I'll bet you need a new MC.
