I must be living in a cave. I hadn't heard of this speeding fine claim. Do you have a URL with more info. I'd like to hear/read more about it.
I know from insiders that OnStar, once it's out of it's infancy, is going to be a service that many customers will be clamouring for. Once OnStar is tied with XM Satellite Radio and billing services are merged or cross-tied, you can expect to have movies beamed to your car while your driving down the road. IF YOU HAVE KIDS, this is important to you - and unfortunately, we are reproducing at an astounding rate. Enough of the rant - imagine ordering a movie to your car on that heinous road trip to quiet the noise from the back seat.
As OnStar expands, expect the toll booths to read, "Speedpass or OnStar" on the high speed lanes. Don't have the cash to pay at the drive-up window? Bill it to your OnStar account. Is your Discover card making you so angry that you don't want to use it at the pump? Charge your gas to your OnStar account.
There are a whole world of conveniences awaiting us by helping to finance tomorrow's R&D. I'll agree that OnStar has some glitches, but when I'm on the road, I use it like MAD! I turned my realtor onto it and BOOM, new Saab in her driveway! It's safe to say that OnStar has helped Saab capture sales from Audi and BMW who do not offer the system. More sales for Saab means they'll stay in business!
We need to stop criticizing things that we don't understand and open our minds to the possibilities that these decisions are creating. By adding OnStar to every car, Saab is helping to line the pockets of the General... that money can be used to help Saab come up with those special niche cars that we all want to say. We need to realize, as Saab enthusiasts, that Saab USA almost went under in 1990. And if GM is helping to keep Saab USA afloat (with help from things like OnStar) then we don't have to worry about hunting for parts like our Peugeot friends do.
