there are some who would describe the changes to the 2002 cars as very minor, and others who consdider them to be significant. It should not surprise you that if you purchased your car at drastically reduced prices versus list, that there are changes to the next model year that are considered significant by others. It is inevitable that cars will change during the model year changeover, and Saab is no different. The basic platform, and most of the mechanicals are pretty much unchanged. What is most different to the average person will be the model designations such as Arc.Linear, etc, which is mostly marketing BS anyway. the most significant mechanical change for a performance enthusiast is that the auto trans is now a 5 speed and has a higher capacity torque rating than the 4 speed that it raplaces. For anyone satisfied with the 230 HP of the current Aero, this is a non issue, since the 4 speed is a terrific unit with virtually no vices.Only us HP junkies who want more will need the higher capacity transmission, and of those who want more power, a large percentage would probably choose the manual gearbox anyway.
The seats in the Aero will have more of a wrap around side bolster, plus the Aero is getting a freakin ugly metal finished dash, which luckilly can be cured by ordering replacement wood dash oparts from the lesser models.
The optional high tech headlights, and ESP package are all nice, but do not change the basic flavor of the car, which you must have already appreciated since you purchased one.
Front and rear styling changes are really minimal, and are probably only being done to allow the company to advertise that the styling is new. Competetive market pressures force everyone to do this kind of thing.
A large portion of the posts on this forum have indicated that the redesigned and somewhat changed car has allowed them to buy the current model at a price that they would have never seen had the 02 model been changed.
I guess my overall point is...If you were that into the small technical details of a car, and that concerned that you get only the latest gadgets and features, perhaps you would not have made your deal till finding out if any of the new features would have swayed your decision. Since more people buy cars for the deal they get than for the technology, you probably made a good choice.
The next car to replace the 9-5 that saab comes out with will be an entirely different vehicle, so at that time buying a closeout would be a different matter.
Good luck with your car.
