1999-2009 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
Hello All,
I am in a situtaion where I could really use some outside advice.
I recently (4-5 weeks ago) picked up a 1999 Saab 9-5 2.3L LPT from a dealer (not a Saab Dealer). It runs very well, but is making a noise by the idler pully. Since the car only has 35K miles on it, I brought it to my local Saab dealer for the 30K mile service and to have this noise looked into. They claim that the noise is a balance shaft chain, and that it would cost me $2000.00 to fix.
Ok, so now I'm passed out on the floor trying to figure out what to do.
I asked if this part is covered under warranty, and the dealer replied "normally, but the engine oil looks dirty. It could be a result of the oil never being changed". The dealer contacted Saab Cars USA to see what it would entail to have this covered under the factory warranty. They replied to both the dealer AND me "have the owner provide receipts for the last three oil changes, and well cover the repair". That sounds great but the oil change receipts were not in the car when I bought it.
Being that I didn't want to fork out the 2-G's for this work (after spending well over $20K a few weeks ago) I attempted to contact the original owner. He was a very nice person who directed me the shop where the oil changes were done. After obtaining receipts for six oil changes, Saab is doing a wonderful song-and-dance routine stating that the engine now has to be "torn down" to see the extent of the damage is, and at that time they will determine what (if any) costs they would cover.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing! They went back on their word!!! Saab Cars USA told myself AND the dealer that if I came up with only THREE receipts, the work would be covered. I actually gave them twice as many receipts as they asked for, now they go back on their word like it never was said to myself or the dealer! What's that all about? I thought this company was based on caring, safety, and honesty!
I am not willing to have the dealer tear down the engine at my expense, just to have some person tell me "well....sorry we can't help you, even though the car is still under factory warranty". Then I'll be stuck with a $2000.00 repair bill.
What can I do?
