Very similar symptoms on my "new" '00 9-5 wagon last year. Blown rear shocks will make rear end very jumpy. Might feel a little different on a wagon, but car felt scary at highway speeds on certain kinds of bumps. Rear end would jiggle-scoot out to the side. New rear shocks made it go away.
Good luck.
