Mine happened after waiting in line at a very slow fast food restaurant on a hot day then hitting the highway and it fried at 80 mph (with only 30K on the V6). Yours happened after 6 hours of crawling through snow and then trying to force your way through snow drifts. Both were extremely stressful on the engine, I would guess. DIC failed on my 2.3L 9-5 at 60K, a car I had twice driven completely loaded down through the hill country of Texas in the middle of summer with three people and three large dogs. Thank goodness it didn't fail in the middle of nowhere, but waited until we got into town. 2 9-5's, 3 DIC failures (one in the 4 cylinder, both in the V6).
I just haven't heard a good explanation for why these things fail!
