Decades ago, I worked my way through college working nights at a GM V8 motor plant near Buffalo. Major crank journal bolts on ALL of the blocks were hand torqued with a manual torque wrench by a guy on the line after the overhead, pneumatic multi bolt driver had done the heavy lifting. I cannot remember now if the same held true for the head bolts. I wonder what the "modern" engine line for these motors looks like these days?
While GM may not have had the best quality control in the world, they had this one figured out a long time ago.
