Hi, Jan
I'm sorry this problem has vexxed you so much these last couple of days. The thing I keep keying on here is that
1) You heard a loud POP while boosting (high intake manifold pressure), and
2) The car ran for a block or so before you shut it down.
Since it didn't =instantly= die, I never thought your problem was electrical. And since it failed while boosting, the most likely cause is a burst/ruptured/separated component somewhere between the turbo and the intake valves.
I've heard that on SOME 900s there's a sneaky little rubber disk or plug on the UNDERSIDE of the intake manifold. (Can anyone verify this?) Sometimes it blows out, and if it did, it's back on the road somewhere near where you heard that pop. An inspection mirror and flashlight will help you examine the underside.
Can you get the car to run at all, holding the throttle open while you start it? (It may run very badly, but might hold at about 2000 rpm while someone looks under the hood and listens for leaks?)
Please let us know when you discover the cause -- I'm very curious!
Good luck, Jan.
