Erik - I have a similar problem with my 87 900T 176K miles. In cold weather it runs very poorly with same symptoms as yours - idles OK but surges under acceleration and car does not get up to speed. But when the engine reaches a certain operating temp, its just like you said - suddenly there is power and it runs well. I first changed the NTC temp sensor, followed by the air and fuel filter, then rotor/plugs/wires/coil, O2 sensor, put in a new (rebuilt) AMM, and a new (rebuilt) ECU. Vacuum lines are all OK (I replaced most of them) and have checked fuel pressure. All that's left is the fuel pressure regulator and fuel pumps. I have disconnected the APC to make sure it wasn't the cause and tried every troubleshooting trick I can think of but yet this problem still exists. The NTC, O2 sensor, AMM, ECU, and coil all had lots of mileage but I think they were actually OK so I can only conclude it must be something else. Something heats up and makes the darn car run well - Certainly is baffling and if you or anyone else should figure it out please send a post.
Thanks,
Rich
