I would try exactly what you describe-prayers/incantations of your choice would be helpful. There's a fair possibility you've damaged the chain and it will fail in the not too distant future.
It all depends on how hard it jammed how much damage was done, if any. The chain can get pretty stuck just dropping it in under it's weight. After you get it out, roll the whole chain around several laps and scrutinize it for bent/twisted plates. If you see even one or any metal bits, don't even start it. Just pull the engine so you can remove the timing cover.
