I've driven/owned the following manual tranny cars:
'75 280Z
'86 Grand Am
'87 Escort "GT" :-)
'88 300ZX
and all of the trannies were "smoother" than...
'85 900T16 <-- car under scrutiny.
By smooth I mean that from a stop in even my '86 Grand Am I could simply push the gear selector into first with no snicking, sticking, hesitation or blocking. It's not uncommon (once a day) that from a stop I can't get the selector in gear with out letting the car roll up or down whatever little hill I'm sitting on a little so I can get it in gear. When I'm on flat land, I have to return to neutral, let the clutch out, and try again...some times a couple of tries. Some times people honk so long that I resort to "forcing" it in 1st.
What I mean more generally is that while at speed and shifting, the selector will only go halfway into gear initially. I have to give it a little extra push to get it in gear. Will I have to live with these symptoms on a rebuild?
Did these trannies require a little extra push to get them past the halfway-into-gear-point?
Do Eriksson's exhibit the same symptoms? Are "Erikssons" rebuilt BWs or is it an Eriksson tranny?
Thanks,
Nathan
