I bought my first Saab in October, I live in New Hampshire. I bought it as a commuter car, I was spending $300 a month on gas in my full size Chevy Pickup. It's a 90 900Turbo, 156K mile, 5 speed, fully loaded including leather seats in perfect shape everything works including the seat heaters, cost me $4,000. So far I have put $140 bucks into replacing the heater control valve.

10,000 miles later, I brought it in for some bulbs to be replaced in the dash, $9.00 and have the SRS light diagnosed, $155 parts and labor and also found out I have an exhause leak, $335. I also found out I have 4 oil leaks, but I think that is my own fault for changing to synthetic oil, which was recommended and I should have done more research. Oh well.

All in all, I love the car and would buy another one in a minute. My wife has a 92 Subaru Legacy with 130K miles. Repairs are similar in cost, but the Saab is definatly a better drive and a classier car. I hate the Subaru, but she loves it and it hasn't cost us more than tires and brakes, even still has the original battery and all the original bulbs.

Last week I drove the Saab through 8 inches of snow 40 miles home from work without a hitch. It was a little tuff to get out of the parking lot at work, but it handles great on the street with the regular summer tires. I have been told by many with 4 snows it will go through snow like a tank. I have been looking for used snows on rims, usually around $200 if you can find them.

All the advice here is great, especially finding a Saab Mechanic. My mechanic is terrific, right down to stock of used parts that are cheaper than the new ones and he is straight with me. Originally I was going to buy an 89 900S with 130K miles for $4,700, way too much money. I'm glad I took the time to look more into the cars and what to look for. I think if you liked your volvo, you will love a Saab. I have also had an 86 Volvo, sold it with 256K miles because I was bored with it, if I hadn't, I'd still be driving it.

Good luck and let me know how you make out!

Sean
