Noisy lifter on 87 SPG: Suggestions?

One lifter is quite loud. I've been quite good about changing the oil, have used synthetic for many years, and the noise continues. Short of replacing the lifters, is there anything both (a) effective and (b) safe that can be done to address this? Does it have repercussions beyond mere annoyance, or is it best to accept?
(It's a good day when this is the worst problem to post; on the other hand, I'm waiting for a ride from the mechanic to pay for all the other stuff done today. Sigh.)
Thanks.
