JohnB is right on the money, here.
Speaking as a rocket scientist with an electrical engineering background, years of building Heathkits, and a dad who was an electrician, I can tell you from my own experimental experience that the resistance through a friction-mated plug is usually higher than the resistance through a soldered connection. After all, you've essentially got current flowing from a wire to a contact, then from contact to contact, then from contact to wire. A good wire-to-wire solder connection invariably has less resistance. So the mech's logic is flawed in that regard anyway.
I'm not completely familiar with the O2 sensor circuit, but I doubt an ohm or two matters much in any case. It's the voltage itself that is sensed, not a voltage drop across a resistance. That's my understanding, anyway. If the resistance were that critical, then installing fuel/air gauges in the circuit would be a big problem, and they aren't. Many people on this board, including myself, have used the generic sensor without problems.
I fear your mech is out to swindle you. At the very least, he is misinformed, but at worst, he's BS'ing you. Find another.
