Thanks for your input. When I said is it safe, I was really trying to get some people's experiences on how long the m/c takes to fail completely.
I would never want to endanger the lives of 'innocent' bystanders. However, at the moment, I only have my 900 at my disposal. My gf drives the 9k. So, it's a choice between driving the car until I fix it, or staying at home, not going to work.
I've actually ordered a replacement, which I should have next week. All I need then is some decent weather to do the work. I've changed several m/cs before, I know it's pretty easy.
I like to think that I keep my cars in excellent mechanical condition. Stuff usually gets replaced before/as soon as it fails. When I bought this 900, the first thing I did was a major front-end overhaul (bjs, steering rack, cv boots, shocks, calipers, discs, etc).
I suppose what I'm trying to say is that it's not always easy for everyone to immediately park their car up as soon as they detect a problem like this. We sometimes have to drive around for a couple of weeks until we can fix it.
