Does your car have ABS? If so, if the ABS pump doesn't run, you won't get Brake Boost. You still have brakes, you just need to STAND on them to get any stopping.
How did you recharge the battery? Did you jump start the car? It really sounds like some major systems are fried. Perhaps it's as simple as a blown main link (fuse). This can happen with jump starts, or if the battery was charged incorrectly.
What year car is it? Which engine? How did you recharge the battery?
