In the past I have used vasoline or a light coat of clean grease on all contact surfaces of the dash and face plate. A good application required disassembly and was limited to doing this as part of the repair process of doing other work in the dash such as speedometer fix or heater blower motor replacement. Out of desperation in the coarse of service I would use a oil can with a LONG spout with the end of a hyperdermic needle attached at its end. Starting one one end of the windshield dash connection point I would lay a bead of oil to work its way in and stop the creak from there.
I have found the solution ....Wurth company makes a spray protective wax that comes with 2 different spray heads. One of the heads has a attached tube for getting into tight spots. I use a small fiberglass stick to open the area above the face plate to dash and spray in the wax. Problem solved!
This wax is incredible in protecting the metal surfaces in the engine room too. It also has its place inside doors at the lock and window mechinisims...
This stuff is darn near $20.00 per little can, but it has its place in the line of fine service.
