Hello everyone. I decided to replace the ball joints on my '84 900 after being quoted a price of $69 per ball joint (parts only; I got TRW replacemnets from Jim Moncrief for only $19!) plus labor. The upper joints went smoothly but the lower bolts were corroded and hellish to remove (wound up having to cut one off and drill it out). Now I am stuck with the lower driver's side ball; can't get it loose from the steering knuckle. In the process of using a pickle fork separator I managed to pop the ball out of the lower carrier and this makes things a bit harder. But I have tried pickle fork, heat, generous soaking of PB Blaster, all to no end. Now the Haynes manual shows a screw operated ball joint tool but I have never seen these anywhere. Has anyone used one and is it worth trying to find (loan?). Any other tips? My car is in the street and I can only keep it there for a few more days.
