Jim,
If your not reusing the shocks then save yourself some serious head/heart ache. Cut the shock shaft above the lower bushing to get that puppy out of there. You'll have enough of a headhache getting the top nut tight anyway. I changed all 4 shocks this summer and by cutting the shaft with a sawzall I was able to complete the fronts in about 2-2 1/2 hours and the rear in about an hour.
