You're more or less on the right track. While under boost there is positive pressure everywhere upstream of the turbo. While not boosting, there will be vacuum. All the sensitive components (the cabin vent system, brake booster, crankcase vent) all have check valves to prevent them from being pressurized. Everything else pretty much doesn't care...
